Astragalus Root (Astragalus mongholicus)

Astragalus, known as Huang Qi in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is one of the 50 fundamental herbs of the Chinese materia medica and has been treasured for thousands of years. Native to China, Mongolia, and North Korea, it was first recorded in the Divine Husbandman's Classic of the Materia Medica (Shennong Bencao Jing), one of the oldest herbal texts in the world. This sun-loving perennial, also called milkvetch, produces sweet, yellow roots that are traditionally harvested after four to five years of growth.

In TCM, astragalus is regarded as a premier Qi tonic, traditionally used to strengthen vital energy, support resilience, and promote overall wellness. Considered an adaptogenic herb, it is commonly prepared as a decoction, tea, tincture, or added to soups and broths for long-term nourishment. Its naturally sweet flavor blends well with other restorative herbs such as ashwagandha, eleuthero, and elderberry.
