Ceylon Cinnamon Chips (Cinnamomum verum)
Our organic, Fair Trade sweet cinnamon chips are sourced from Sri Lanka, the native home of Cinnamomum verum, also known as Ceylon or "true cinnamon." Prized for its delicate sweetness and gentle warming qualities, true cinnamon has been used for thousands of years in both culinary and herbal traditions. The bark is perfect for cinnamon tea, herbal infusions, and warming spice blends.
A member of the laurel family (Lauraceae), true cinnamon has been mentioned in the Bible, ancient Egyptian texts, and was once one of the world's most valuable spices, traded throughout Europe and Asia. In Ayurveda, cinnamon (twak) is considered a warming herb that supports healthy digestion and circulation. While cassia is more commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), true cinnamon remains a favorite in herbalism and cuisine.
Unlike cassia, Ceylon cinnamon has thin, layered bark, a lighter tan color, and a milder, sweeter flavor, making it especially well suited for teas and delicate recipes.
