Meadowsweet is a fragrant perennial in the rose (Rosaceae) family native to Europe and western Asia, now naturalized throughout North America. Growing in damp meadows and streambanks, it is recognized by its clusters of creamy white flowers with a naturally sweet, almond-like aroma. Long valued in traditional European herbalism, meadowsweet was used to flavor wines, meads, and vinegars and was historically strewn on floors to freshen homes.
