Plantain Leaf
Plantain Leaf
Plantain Leaf (Plantago lanceolata)
Plantain is a hardy perennial in the Plantaginaceae family, native to temperate Eurasia and now naturalized throughout the Americas and Australia. Thriving in disturbed soils, it is commonly found along pathways, in gardens, and even between sidewalk cracks. The young spring leaves have long been enjoyed as an edible wild green, added to salads, soups, and other seasonal dishes.
For centuries, plantain has been valued in traditional Western herbalism for both its internal and topical uses. According to folklore, the fresh leaves were chewed and applied to the skin to help draw out splinters and other minor irritants. Today, plantain remains a favorite herb for teas, herbal infusions, and botanical skin care preparations.
The two most common species, Plantago lanceolata (narrowleaf or ribwort plantain) and Plantago major (broadleaf plantain), are used interchangeably in herbal practice. Our organic plantain leaf is ideal for herbal teas, custom botanical blends, and topical formulations.
