Sassafras Bark (Sassafras albidum)

Native to eastern North America, sassafras is an aromatic tree with a long history of traditional use by Indigenous communities and herbalists. Once valued as a signature flavor in traditional root beer, its fragrant bark is now commonly used in herbal infusions and topical preparations. Sassafras belongs to the laurel (Lauraceae) family and is easily recognized by the distinctive mitten-shaped leaves found on young trees.
