Senna Leaf (Senna alexandrina)

Senna is a shrubby member of the Fabaceae family, native to northern Egypt and cultivated throughout parts of India, Sudan, and Somalia. The plant produces bright yellow flowers, long spreading branches, and flat, oblong seed pods. Both the leaves and pods have been used for centuries in traditional herbal practices and are commonly prepared as teas, tinctures, and herbal formulas. While both plant parts are valued, the leaves are generally considered more potent than the pods and have also been incorporated into topical preparations.

Senna is traditionally used to promote bowel regularity. Its naturally occurring sennosides are converted by beneficial bacteria in the colon into active compounds that stimulate intestinal movement, helping encourage normal bowel evacuation.

Precautions: Do not use if you have abdominal pain or diarrhea.
