Yaupon Tea (Ilex vomitoria)

Organic medium-roasted yaupon is a smooth, naturally sweet tea made from the only naturally caffeinated plant native to North America. Indigenous peoples of the Southeastern United States enjoyed yaupon for thousands of years before it was largely forgotten and recently rediscovered as a regional tea. A hardy evergreen native from Texas to North Carolina, yaupon is closely related to South America's yerba maté and guayusa.

Unlike traditional teas made from Camellia sinensis, yaupon contains virtually no tannins, resulting in a smooth infusion that resists becoming bitter even with longer steeping. Its rich, roasted flavor makes it an excellent everyday tea for those seeking a uniquely North American botanical.
